Community Service Projects
“I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 23:40
Scripture teaches us to care for one another, especially those in need. (James 2:13-16) All classes are preparing to serve others in a purposeful way.
Good Shepherd's Outreach to the Community
Kindergartners and their families collected small to medium-sized stuffed animals and presented them to the Kingston Fire Department during a field trip to the firehouse. The firemen were so kind to the children and everyone had such a great time. This was a highlight of the Kindergarten year!
Grade 1 visited a senior citizen, Mrs. Nelson and spent a few hours raking her yard. They brought rakes, gloves, and trash bags to accomplish the project. They even enjoyed having a snack with her.
Grade 2 visited the Duxbury Council on Aging and presented a skit, "Alive, Alive" as well as visiting with the seniors. The children enjoyed introducing themselves to different folks and having conversations with them.
Grades 3 and 4 earned their own money to purchase blankets or stuffed animals for the Kingston Police officers to give to children in crisis who may need some comfort. Sargent Kelly visited the class to discuss this project with the students. He also took them outside and let them sit/investigate his patrol car!
Grades 5 and 6 visited the Salvation Army in Plymouth for three days in May helping to serve lunch to the homeless. They will also stocked shelves and help clean up after lunch. This was a great opportunity for our students to see that if we just look around us, there are people who need our help.
