Overview Good Shepherd Christian Academy’s Elementary grades span from kindergarten through fifth grade. We believe that these are crucial years in which students grow academically, spiritually, socially, and physically. The curriculum for each grade is designed to help the student master important new ideas and reinforce previously learned skills and concepts. The classrooms are full of Christ-centered, developmentally-appropriate learning activities. The kindergarten curriculum includes training in phonemic awareness, alphabetic principles, connecting letters with sounds, word blending, sight word recognition, and beginning reading. The goal is for most of the children to be happy little readers by the end of the year! Children learn also basic handwriting skills, beginning math concepts, science, social studies, Bible, art, music, and physical education in this full day program. Our Elementary teachers continue this work providing age/grade appropriate subjects and materials. In addition, they provide a classroom environment that enables each child to acquire the skills he or she will need to be successful in life, and to engender a love for learning.
